Two new Acer laptops. It’s even hard to tell which one is gaming

Computex brought us two new models of Acer laptops. We are talking about the Swift Edge 16 with AMD Ryzen processors and the gaming Predator Triton 16. Both have elegant housings, so at first glance it is not even clear which one is intended for players.

Refreshing a known model

The Acer Swift Edge notebook is already known to us. In stores you can find its version running on AMD Ryzen 5 processors in conjunction with the Radeon 660M GPU. However, the manufacturer decided to refresh the range of its devices a bit, providing professionals with access to a new generation platform.

For this reason, the Acer Swift Edge 16 appeared on the market , in the bowels of which there are new AMD Ryzen 7040 series processors and AMD Radeon 780M graphics.

The housing itself looks good – it’s a magnesium and aluminum alloy weighing 1.23 kg and a maximum thickness of 12.95 mm. The image is displayed on a high-quality OLED panel with a diagonal of 16 ” and a resolution of 3.2K (3200 x 2000 pixels). Its refresh rate is 120 Hz, and good color reproduction is ensured by 100% DCI-P3 gamut in tandem with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 and VESA DisplayHDR certification. LEDs with a peak brightness of 500 nits provide good illumination.

The housing hides a fingerprint reader that supports Windows Hello, a new Wi-Fi 7 module, or a 1440p QHD camera with automatic framing, gaze correction and advanced background blur. These are the things that come in handy during frequent video calls.

In addition, we have two USB type A ports, two USB 4 type C ports supporting Power Delivery 65 W with fast charging and display functions, HDMI 2.1 and a microSD card reader.

Acer Predator Triton 16 – inconspicuous powerhouse

There is another notebook that Acer has boasted about – the respectable Predator Triton 16 , which has the power of a thousand suns. With a 13th Gen Intel Core processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, and 32GB of DDR5 5200MHz memory, it will devour anything the gamer throws at it alive.

This set is cooled by two 5th generation AeroBlade 3D fans , which ensure that overloads do not melt the housing into a pool of metal. Quite an elegant housing, I must admit. The silver finish doesn’t suggest the Predator’s predatory nature at all In fact, the only thing that could reveal its gaming DNA is the thickness of the housing reaching 19.9 mm and the colorful RGB keyboard backlight.

The gameplay is presented on a 16-inch IPS screen with WQXGA resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels). The peak brightness is 500 nits, but in this case the high refresh rate is more impressive – up to 240 Hz. Of course, we also get 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and support for NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and NVIDIA G-SYNC for a smooth image.

Among the current modules we have Wi-Fi 6E, as well as a set of ports: USB 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 and a microSD card reader.
